22. SALARY ON APPOINTMENT

a. Employees appointed to Scale 1 posts will be paid in accordance with the following rate for age scale:-

		18			2
		19			3
		20			4
		21		  	5
No extra increments will be given for qualifications as appointees should have the required education standard for the post.

Scale points will be calculated on the age of the appointee on 31st March after appointment. New entrants aged 21 and over will be paid on Scp. 5.

b. Employees appointed to posts beyond Scale 1 will be appointed on the minimum point except in exceptional circumstances and by agreement with the Director of Personnel.

c. Salaries will be paid monthly in arrears by credit transfer on the penultimate Friday of each month.

d. Staff employed on short-term temporary contracts will normally be paid on a weekly basis

e. Technicians and Senior Technicians possessing the City and Guilds Science Laboratory Technician's Certificate or an alternative qualification recognised by the University, to receive £123.000 per annum in addition to the scale salary. Technicians and Senior Technicians possessing the City and Guilds Laboratory Technician's Advanced Certificate, or a recognised alternative qualification, to receive a further £96.00 per annum in addition to the scale salary. The appropriateness of types and standards of qualifications is a matter for determination by the University, with the basic standard of qualification being that of the City and Guilds Science Laboratory Technician's Certificate. Appropriate alternatives in the case of workshop staffs would be, for example, the City and Guilds Machine Shop Engineering or Electrical Technicians Certificates.
