a. The annual leave entitlement for employees is as follows:-
b. The annual leave period shall be form 1st April to 31st March. In exceptional circumstances and by mutual agreement, 5 days leave can be carried forward to the next leave year, but must be taken by no later than May 31st.
c. Maternity leave shall be regarded as service for the purpose of calculating an employee's entitlement to annual leave after five year's continuous service
d New entrants to the service shall be entitled to annual leave proportionate to the completed months of service during the leave year of entry (as illustrated) by the following table and thereafter, on the normal scale.
An employee will be paid their normal pay including any contractual overtime payments and allowances during their leave period.
ADDITIONAL DAYS
In addition to statutory days and general national holidays, employees are entitled to four "extra statutory" days which are taken on 2nd January and on each Tuesday immediately following Easter, Whitsun and August Bank Holiday Mondays.
CHRISTMAS CLOSURE
In agreement with the recognised staff representatives the University will grant all employees upto two additional days leave provided that the employee utilises two day's of their annual leave/flexi-leave over the Christmas closure period. A schedule outlining the closures is available from Personnel.
14. ANNUAL LEAVE
Up to and including Spinal Column Point 22 20* days
Spinal Column Points 23 to 35 25 days
Spinal Column Point 36 and above 30 days
*Annual leave entitlements asterisked to be increased by 5 days in the case of employees who immediately prior to the leave year have not less than 5 years continuous service.

e. Timing of leave shall be through mutual agreement between the Director of School/Head of Service and the employee and permission will not be unreasonably refused.
