1. RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION OF STAFF TO UNIVERSITY OF SUNDERLAND POLICY AND PROCEDURES

The University of Sunderland is seeking to become an Equal Opportunities employer and is developing Equal Opportunities policies and practices.

In the area of Recruitment and Selection of staff, the University has as its first objective:

"To carry out the recruitment process in such a way as to achieve as wide a field of suitably qualified candidates as possible, irrespective of their membership of any disadvantaged or under represented group or membership of a particular section of the community. All permanent posts will be open to competition. All staff involved in the recruitment process will receive Equal Opportunities training."

The University is also committed to the Opportunity 2000 initiative which is aimed at increasing the quality and quantity of women's participation within the workforce.
